Bauleitung
Review of the building. The building in which we are is called "Bauleitung". It was constructed by Luftwaffe in 1941 to lodge the offices of the military organism of architects and of engineers there taking care of the building and the maintenance of the military buildings of Luftwaffe in Belgium and in the North of France. Here the official authorities thought therefore they were united which managed all necessary jobs on the different air sites of this region. Alone the ground floor was occupied by the personnel, the floor being only a loft of stocking and other one, accessible only via a hatch to the ceiling. The soil was entirely latté in oilskin rafters of oak some elements of which there remain only in the current places (room of the judo). The majority personnel was principally constituted by girls charged with administrative tasks, and some engineers. It also existed around these offices, from other batiments such as sheds for the movable equipment, but also, in the adjacent feeds, other wooden constructed offices. These last were destroyed. At the end of war, the building was used by a hosiery, then left and finally bought back by the city of Chievres which made its cultural centre. Our museum occupies a part of the loft done up. |
