The museum

Located on the street of Saint-Ghislain in the ancient German building (Bauleitung). The International Museum of the Air base of Chièvres welcomes you since April 9th, 2003.

Having borrowed the footbridge, the visitor is plunged into a particular world. He is in the cabin of C119 of transport where ports allow to discover and to go through the history of the base of Chièvres since its origin in 1918 until our days, through photos of epoch, objects, models and models.

“Flying Boxcar C-119 ”, or “Packets ”, is an apparatus of transport ordered in the fifties to replace ancient C-47B Dakotas of FAÉB.
The first apparatus C-119 which have delivered summers are of the model " F " while the last will be new planes of version "G". In total, they will be 46 C-119 which will be sold in Belgian Air Force between 1952 and 1975.

Visit, guided and commented for about one hour is accomplished by motivated guides and often by ancient of Belgian Air Force (7th Wing), who were present on the base during its occupation by him Belgian Air Force.

Practically, the museum is opened from April 1st till September 30th, Sundays afternoon from 14 to 17 h.

For winter period, from October 1st till March 31st, the museum is closed.
